Old Klondike Cemetery at Klondike, Delta County, Texas is between Commerce and Cooper on Hwy 24. Turn at the Klondike sign.
The cemetery is located directly behind the Klondike Baptist Church.
Texas Marker Inscription reads:
John Hunt (1814 - 1853) and Nancy Allard (1813 - 1911) came to Texas from
Missouri in 1849. Married in 1850, they gave land for a grave site when a
neighbor child, Eliza Armstrong, died in 1852. John Hunt was the second
person buried at the site. Joel J. Hunt (1851 - 1933), son of John and Nancy,
and his wife, Joan Morgan Looney Hunt (1857 - 1924), formally deeded the land
for the cemetery in 1878. The terms of the deed stated that it would be a
public burial ground, with no charge for plots. The Klondike Cemetery
Association, established in 1960, provides perpetual care for the graveyard.
Our Ancestor, Charles Addison Henderson, was one of the first
Henderson family members to move from Laurens County, South Carolina to make his
home in Texas in 1870. He moved to Texas as many people did after the end of the
Civil War. Charles married Arretta Adiline Skidmore on Feb 4, 1871. They lived
in the Klondike area for the rest of their lives and raised a total of 8
children. Their descendents live in Texas, Utah, North Carolina, California,
Oklahoma and
many other places. There are several more Hendersons buried in the cemetery.
There are also some other Hendersons buried there that are not tied into our
family line.

The association is in charge of maintaining the cemetery and they are doing a
